Amazon’s racial and gender data

Amazon has released data on their racial and gender makeup.    As of Dec 31, the company is 31.4% female, 7.2% black, and 47% White.    The senior leadership is 22.8% female, and 3.8% Black.   It’s also 70.% White.  The company wants to double Black leadership in 2021, and increase women in senior technical roles by 30%.

Why do we care?

So compared with this podcast’s own Q1 leadership diversity report, Amazon is outperforming the IT industry.  A percentage and a half on Black leadership, and 14 percent less white leaders.    It’s about 3% better on female leadership.

This is becoming a data driven conversation.     In my mind, that’s very positive.   Are you participating?
