According to a survey by Piper Sandler, nearly 90% of US teenagers who own smartphones have iPhones. This dominance in the market is expected to benefit Apple in the long term. The survey also found that many teens use Apple Pay and own Apple Watches, but Spotify is more popular than Apple Music among this demographic.
Another data point from the survey. Mobile device remains the No.1 preferred method for customer service interactions (50% share); Text/SMS shows the best multi-year gains.
Why do we care?
For MSPs and IT outsourcing companies that manage device fleets, the overwhelming preference for iPhones among teenagers can hint at future enterprise trends. Companies may increasingly request Apple device support, given that these young people are the future workforce and consumers. Therefore, optimizing for Apple’s ecosystem today could position MSPs for a more robust business tomorrow. This is a significant cultural wave coming, and that’s why this data struck me.
