IT distribution giant Ingram Micro is reportedly working with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley on an $8 billion IPO that could launch in April. This would not be their first attempt, as they previously filed for an IPO in 2022 but later passed on the opportunity. Ingram Micro went private in 2016 when China-based HNA Group acquired it before being acquired by Platinum Equity in 2021. The company has been making moves to better position itself for investors, including layoffs and facility closures.
I’m not entirely sure we do care. At that size and scale, most providers simply aren’t going to be impacted. There is certainly confidence in Ingram Micro’s market position and future growth prospects. This move is strategic, aiming to capitalize on the current market conditions favorable for technology and distribution companies. It does suggest favorable market conditions, which is good for the industry broadly.
