Right to repair in effect in the UK

In the UK, the right to repair law has taken effect as of yesterday.   It applies to so called “white goods”, including refrigerators, washing machines, and televisions.     Spare parts must be available to consumers under the law.     The goal is to expand the lifetime of appliances by up to 10 years.

Why do we care?

We care simply because these laws are happening.   Europe tends to lead lately with regulation, but with the world so connected, the impacts are felt more globally.      This is consumer products, but it’s tech adjacent, and feels like a data point on the regulation trend.
