Another new tech worker union story – the tech workers at the New York Times have formed one under the NewsGuild of New York. The Tech Times Guild represents 650 workers from the digital side of the business, including software engineers and data analysts.
The editorial union covers the reporters and media professionals, also under NewsGuild.
Why do we care?
So, I’m stringing together the union stories here. The New York Times has a significant digital business. They are a tech company too, although one that has a legacy brand and business. And their workers are unionizing.
There’s a shift going on in labor. I’ll admit to not seeing the endgame for this yet, but the status quo isn’t going to last.
