Acronis has released their Pulse of the Managed Service Provider 2021 report.
MSPs anticipate their top generating services to be heavily focused on offering managed security and cloud-based managed solutions. All other historically meaningful areas of MSP business will be contracting — with the exception of software resale, which will remain unchanged. In short, what it means to be an MSP is fundamentally changing, and quickly. While it is safe to say that these changes were already underway, the realities of COVID-19 have amplified and accelerated the industry’s evolution.
Quick hit data: Managed Security services, up 89%. Cloud-based managed services, 51%. RMM, down 21%. Traditional support services, -73%
Why do we care?
I’m going to quote my good friend and co-host on Killing IT Karl Palachuk from his newsletter.
“One of the most striking findings is the comparison of actual 2020 sales with projected 2021 (and beyond) sales. The vast majority of respondents reported stable or increasing sales for unified communications, networking, and systems integrations.
Looking ahead, these same respondents project major reductions in traditional onsite maintenance, hardware and software sales, and even remote management. They foresee increases in cloud-based management and managed security services.
One important message in all of this: The source of your revenue is changing – fast.”
A bit of “what he said”. I’ve been preaching the change in revenue mix too, and this is clearly a chorus of voices. It does not spoil the tune.
