Uganda has ordered ISPs to block all social media apps as of Tuesday this week. This comes from the Uganda Communication Commission.
Poland plans to make censoring social media accounts illegal.
Google is blocking all political ads until at least the day after the inauguration. The reason? Preventing mis information.
Why do we care?
Civics lesson. The first is government censorship. The second is regulation. The third is a company deciding who they do business with.
In the US, the first is illegal, the second inadvisable, and the third is a private company doing what it believes minimizes its risk. And it’s legal.
Each has different implications. I have to remind about the bifurcation of the internet.
