Forrester has released information about the increase in robotic process automation – 48% of organizations are to increase that investment by 5% or more in 2021. For those deploying artificial intelligence, 40% said automation was a priority.
Also of note, the focus is sharper among large organizations, which Gartner is saying will triple their portfolios – and nine in 10 large organizations are going to deploy some form of RPA in the next two years.
Why do we care?
Alright, I’m going to call it, RPA is super important and simultaneously as annoyingly named as digital transformation. If I squint a bit it looks the same too – a series of promises about taking business stuff and making them technology enabled.
I think you care because this is where tools will become usable for small and midsize businesses. I’m not dismissive of the value of these tools at all – automation tools are developing faster, and these business enablement services are where the high value is.
I also think you don’t care because this is another buzzword for something you’re already doing. If you’re investing in new ways to help customers leverage technology (of which automation is a subset), then this is just more buzzwords for something you do.
And if you’re not doing that, you should be. That’s where the money is.
