Lyft has threatened to pull out of California if forced to classify drivers as employees. This as a judge has ruled against an extension to the order to change the classification. This fight is over independent contractors versus employees, and the requirement for benefits for each.
Why do we care?
We care about this one because the fight over this classification on employees is something I think could open up opportunity. The argument continues to be an OR – either employee OR independent contractor. We need more of a spectrum, and the ability to be more flexible with workers.
Just as we are looking at more remote options or ways to work from anywhere, this is another opportunity to be able to work with people more dynamically. I’m hoping this results in some creative options.
